Gallery Courtyard

A major showcase of UK artists working with glass on metal

The Devon Guild presents ‘Playing with Fire’. Now a relatively specialised medium, it uses simple processes which has its roots in industrial metalwork. The enamel art on show here encompasses a vast range of objects and art forms, from the tiny and exquisite to sculptural jewellery and large-scale work for walls. Each artist has taken traditional methods and created new forms, for example using laser-cutting and digital printing. Major prizes have been awarded to the most innovative work. This is in collaboration with the University of the West of England and the British Society of Enamellers. ‘Playing with Fire’ tours across the UK in 2009/10. Artists include: Kathryn Adamson, Stephen Bottomley, Helen Carnac, Beate Gegenwart.

The Devon Guild of Craftsmen is a registered charity founded in 1955 by Edward Baly and a small group of makers enthusiastic about the idea of promoting the best in regional craftwork.
